Cinco de Mayo has developed into quite the event in North America — and is celebrated by many people, with parades, fiestas and plenty of food, music and dancing.
We here at Organo Gold would like to celebrate with a special drink, which was included in our OG Family Holiday Cookbook 2014, and was submitted by OG Mexico distributor Maria Cristina Peña, who lives in Mexico City. Horchata is the rice-based drink that you often see in large glass jars in Mexican restaurants. It is traditionally a rice milk based drink flavored with vanilla and cinnamon, and is a refreshing accompaniment to spicy Mexican cuisine.
Maria’s recipe adds an OG twist to the traditional horchata with the addition of some Organo Gold Gourmet Café Mocha.
Mocha Horchata
INGREDIENTS: 1 sachet Organo Gold Café Mocha 1 Tbsp rice flour 1 glass water 1 1⁄2 glass crushed ice 1 Tbsp honey or brown sugar to taste
1 small cinnamon stick to serve
DIRECTIONS:
Place all ingredients into a blender and pulse to incorporate them very well until foam forms.
Transfer the drink into a tall glass and decorate with a cinnamon stick to serve.
So — whip up a batch of this delicious mocha-enhanced horchata, and enjoy celebrating Cinco de Mayo, OG style.
